The opportunity
We are seeking an Advisor, Payroll to provide payroll support and processing to a complex area focused on employees on our 24-hour rosters as part of our maintenance delivery service. This role focuses on the timely and accurate maintenance of payroll and employee data throughout the entire employee lifecycle. This role is a key position in our payroll team to both support the payroll co-ordinators with specific questions around employee payments but requires strong payroll experience in the interpretation of timesheets in line with the Enterprise Agreement to determine overtime and allowances paid to shift workers. This role will require ongoing and strong relationships with our Depot Officers in the Maintenance teams and will involve significant work around paying our employees correctly in line with their rosters.
We are seeking candidates that have strong payroll EA knowledge for this position that can get involved in our team to support the payroll processing workload and can work well in a busy team environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage the end-to-end process of onboarding new starters into the payroll system for the payroll related activities such as tax, super, allowances, deductions
- Manage the interaction of payroll connections and payments related to a rostered workforce ensuring that employees timesheets are correctly interpreted and paid in line with the GWW enterprise agreement and individual flexible agreements
- Engage with Depot Officers in the business to review the 24 hour roster patterns and ensure we are supporting operations with payroll questions and changes that affect employee payments, overtime, allowances and leave
- Engage with our workplace relations team and Team Leader, Payroll to escalate any technical issues in the interpretation of the timesheets
- Cross check timesheet hour and leave extractions with the Team Leader, Payroll to ensure accuracy of employment payments as part of the fortnightly pay cycle ensuring challenging pay deadlines are met
- Assist the wider payroll team with other payroll work and employment queries as agreed with the Team Leader, Payroll
- Support HR Services and Strategic Business Partners with payroll-related advice, award interpretation, and ensure compliance with relevant employment and taxation legislation.
- Foster strong relationships across the business, especially with our Service Delivery Maintenance team, Finance and external partners, while promoting a culture of collaboration and aligning with our Culture Model within the People Services and wider PC&S teams.
Skills & Experience
- Comprehensive experience in end-to-end payroll processing within a medium-sized organisation, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for all employees.
- Proficient in payroll administration, with extensive knowledge of various payroll processes and systems, enhancing operational efficiency.
- Strong understanding of current Australian employment legislation and practices, ensuring compliance and effective handling of payroll-related issues.
- Strong knowledge of EA interpretation principles and how they apply to timesheet extensions and paying employees on rostered arrangements in a similar industrial workforce.
- In-depth knowledge of payroll legislation and industry best practices, contributing to the development of robust payroll strategies.
- Proven administrative, organisational, and analytical skills, enabling effective management of payroll tasks and the ability to analyse data for informed decision-making.
