Are you passionate about animal care and eager to start or further your career in the veterinary field? Do you thrive in a supportive, energetic, and fun work environment? If you’re a team player who loves to take initiative and wants to work with professionals who care as much about each other as they do about their furry patients, we’d love to hear from you!

About Us

Based in Port Adelaide, we are a well-established veterinary practice and cattery dedicated to providing exceptional care for our animal patients and outstanding service for their humans. Our clinic is known not just for our high standards of veterinary medicine, but also for our welcoming, positive, and, yes, fun environment! We believe that happy staff make for happy pets and clients, and we take pride in creating a workplace where everyone feels empowered and valued.

The Role: Veterinary Nurse Assistant

As a Veterinary Nurse Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our veterinarians and veterinary nurses to deliver top-quality care to our patients. You'll gain hands-on experience with a wide variety of animals, from playful puppies and kittens to wise old companions. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a career in animal healthcare, or for those with some experience wanting to develop their skills.

  • Assisting veterinarians and veterinary nurses during consultations, treatments, and surgical procedures
  • Handling and restraining animals safely and compassionately
  • Preparing and maintaining surgical instruments, equipment, and exam rooms
  • Cleaning and disinfecting cages, kennels, and other areas of the clinic
  • Feeding, walking, and providing daily care for in-patient animals
  • Assisting in the administration of medications and treatments as directed
  • Monitoring animals’ health and behaviour, reporting any concerns to the veterinary team
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records
  • Communicating warmly and professionally with pet owners both in person and on the phone, answering their questions and offering support where needed
  • Upholding our clinic’s standards for cleanliness, safety, and animal welfare

What We’re Looking For

  • A True Team Player: You collaborate easily, support your colleagues, and know that caring for animals is a collective effort.
  • Willing to learn new skills and not afraid to ask questions.
  • Enthusiastic and Positive: You bring energy, laughter, and a can-do attitude to the clinic, helping keep our environment upbeat—even on the busiest days!
  • Compassionate and Patient: You genuinely care about animals and their humans, showing empathy, patience, and understanding in all interactions.
  • Organised and Detail-Oriented: You keep track of many details at once and handle tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Reliable and Trustworthy: You can be counted on to be punctual, responsible, and professional.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including weekends when required.

Experience & Qualifications

  • No prior veterinary experience is required; however, experience working with animals is a plus
  • Holding a certificate II/III in Animal Studies or currently studying Cert IV Veterinary Nursing is highly regarded
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be physically fit and able to lift and handle animals of various sizes

Why Join Us?

  • Fun, Supportive Environment: We believe work should be enjoyable!
  • Learning and Growth: We offer on-the-job training, mentorship from experienced veterinary professionals, and opportunities for career advancement.
  • Team Spirit: We thrive on collaboration and mutual support. You’ll never feel alone here—your team has your back!
  • Valuing Your Ideas: We love new ideas and encourage everyone to speak up and contribute to improving our clinic.
  • Work-Life Balance: We understand life happens outside of work and aim to offer flexible scheduling where possible.
  • Competitive remuneration and staff discounts on veterinary products and services
