Join the University of Melbourne's Veterinary School as an Animal Attendant - Equine, where you'll play a vital role in supporting the operation and provision of services within the Equine Centre. You'll contribute to the care and husbandry of equine patients, ensuring their well-being while facilitating world-class veterinary education and research. This exciting opportunity will allow you to develop specialised skills in equine care while working in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Equine Husbandry: Assist with the care and husbandry of all equine patients within the Equine Centre.

  • Facility Maintenance: Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and order in all areas, ensuring proper care and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.

  • Patient Handling: Handle equine patients safely for procedures within the hospital and on ambulatory visits.

  • Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining a full inventory of all barn activities and associated stock.

  • Training and Support: Assist in demonstrating animal handling techniques to junior staff and undergraduate veterinary students.

You are a dedicated and compassionate individual with a strong background in equine husbandry and management, possessing excellent attention to detail and a commitment to promoting animal welfare in a veterinary setting.

You may also:

  • Possess demonstrated knowledge and practical skills in horse husbandry, management, and handling, including barn management.

  • Have the ability to work unsupervised, showing initiative and excellent work ethics.

  • Demonstrate strong organisational skills and the ability to work to priorities.

  • Possess good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff and students.

  • Hold a current and valid Victorian driver's license.

  • Possess a Certificate in Equine Husbandry or a Diploma in Animal Husbandry and Health (desirable).

  • Hold a forklift driver's license (desirable).
