  • Hobart (preferred), Adelaide and Melbourne

As the Antarctic Meteorologist, you will play a crucial and ongoing role in Antarctic operational services all year round. You will support the development and delivery of training, competency assessment and process improvement for a seasonal team of meteorologists deployed to various Antarctic locations. You will interact with collaborators across the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) and the wider Australian Antarctic Program (AAP) to support weather-critical aviation, marine and terrestrial operations.
In this role you will typically work standard business hours from an Australian office, but may also be required to join operational rosters and respond out-of-hours during significant events. Schedules can vary suddenly due to the contingent nature of Antarctic conditions. In this role there may be opportunities at times to deploy to Antarctica, or to backfill other roles to support the deployment of other meteorologists to Antarctica.
Your expertise and insight of Antarctic meteorology will be influential in ensuring the Bureau provides trusted, reliable and responsive weather and ice services that enable Antarctic operations. You will issue products electronically and via briefings. You will cultivate productive relationships across the value chain of Antarctic services, both within the Bureau and across stakeholders associated with the AAP. You will grow your competencies across Antarctic weather and ice services.
This is an ongoing position within the Ocean and Antarctic Services (OAS) team and reports to the OAS Team Lead. OAS sits within the Marine and Antarctic Environmental Prediction Service (EPS MA) section of Community Services Group (CSG). Your immediate colleagues will consist of subject matter experts across operational services, high latitude meteorology, sea ice and ocean prediction.
