About the Role

Tamworth Mental Health Inpatient Services is seeking committed and enthusiastic Assistants in Nursing to join our dedicated team at the T-BASIS unit. This specialist unit provides high-quality care for older people living with dementia and neurocognitive issues.

You’ll be part of a passionate team that is committed to delivering compassionate, person-centred care to patients and families, supported by a strong and collaborative multidisciplinary approach.

The Assistant in Nursing works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, supporting the delivery of safe, person-centred care. This is an exciting opportunity to grow your career in mental health nursing while making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

This is a particularly exciting time to join our service, with a brand-new $700 million Mental Health Unit currently under construction at Tamworth Hospital. Scheduled to open in March 2026, the new facility will provide:

  • A modern, purpose-built environment with 37 inpatient beds including a dedicated 8-bed older persons’ area
  • Direct connection to Tamworth Hospital via a new enclosed walkway
  • Light-filled spaces, calming colours inspired by the local rivers, and sustainable design features
  • Culturally sensitive design shaped by consultation with staff, consumers, carers, and the local Kamilaroi and Gomeroi communities
