Position Information

George Bass School is a dynamic school in South West Sydney within the Chipping Norton Schools Network which supports just over 100 students with additional learning needs with a moderate or severe intellectual disability in Kindergarten to Year 12. The school has a diverse and highly engaged community with 92% of students coming from a family with a language background other than English.

George Bass School provides innovative and differentiated learning programs through the implementation of quality teaching practices by highly dedicated staff. Individual programs and resources include community access, work placement opportunities, an educational support dog, and assistive and immersive technologies.

All staff members have high expectations of students and are committed to their success as valued members of the wider community which is made possible by maintaining strong links with families and key stakeholders. This collaboration enables students to learn essential communication and independence skills in a safe and positive environment.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria:

  • Empathetic engagement with colleagues, parents, and external service providers to build positive community relationships and provide consistent and equitable support for students.
  • Expansive knowledge in integrating student communication systems into learning programs with the ability to lead and mentor others in adopting communication practices which enhance functional communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage challenging and/or unexpected situations through collaboration and teamwork using skills in dynamic decision-making and problem-solving, effective communication, and task delegation.
  • Experience in using departmental policies, practices and people creatively to personalise educational experiences that ensure each student learns, thrives, and is prepared for life.


General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy


Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
