The opportunity
We are seeking a talented Aviation Operations Specialist to join the Brisbane team.
The Aviation Operations (AVNOPS) Specialist is responsible for overseeing development and implementation of safety management system artefacts, training, competency frameworks, safety communication and culture initiatives across applicable services provided by BDA to support aviation operations.
Desirable Experience-
- Military or civilian aircrew experience.
- Experience within Defence aviation operations in a high tempo environment.
- Knowledge of Defence Aviation Safety Regulations and an advanced understanding of safety management systems and regulatory compliance.
- Advanced knowledge of aviation risk management strategies and frameworks.
- Expertise in managing safety management systems in a complex organization.
Key Organisational Accountabilities-
- Ensure that BDA Programs/BU/Capabilities safety policies are compliant with requirements.
- Provide advice to Accountable Leaders to support safety management outcomes for AVNOPS.
- Communicate with DAVNOPS, as appropriate, to support a greater understanding of aviation risks and their mitigation/management.
- Liaison with Customer Aviation Safety groups to provide critical safety information relating to BDA P&S SMS including, where required, BDA risks, tolerance and mitigations and Product and Service safety investigation outcomes.
- Support safety review boards to ensure the effectiveness of the P&S SMS, specifically in AVNOPS.
- Develop and support the Aviation Operations Council (AOC) to review risks and issues facing AVNOPS by highlighting specific reported events, near misses and trends and discusses mitigation methods for current and future safety hazards.
- Represent BDA P&SS at Interested Party safety boards (eg: DAVNOPS symposium), as required.
- Communicate and report information regarding AVNOPS risks, issues and opportunities.
- Support development of safety objectives and targets, AVNOPS specific SPIs, and SRM processes through collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Conduct periodical, or event based, Aviation Risk Management (AVRM) reviews at Program/BU/Org level. This is to supplement AVRM reviews already conducted within the Program/BU/Org to ensure that the BDA Operation SMS intent is carried over to each part of the business
- Identify and analyse trends in safety performance to enable the development of risk management strategies and support verification of control effectiveness.
- Provide support to AVNOPS and/or P&SS investigations in a Lead Investigator, or support, role.
- Support Just Culture reviews at the Program/BU/Org level, as appropriate.
- Support the establishment, and continuation, of P&S SMS AVNOPS specific training throughout the business.
