The Drug and Alcohol Service aims to provide the best care in the management of addiction and other drug and alcohol problems to individuals, families and community organisations in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.
What you'll be doing
- Provide medical support for the Consultation Liaison Drug and Alcohol service at Nepean Hospital with a particular focus on patients presenting with methamphetamine abuse issues.
- You will be part of a multidisciplinary team in the management of patients with substance use in various forms of service delivery treatment modalities across the whole LHD.
- The service includes delivery of Opiate Substitution Therapy, specialised Substance Use in Pregnancy clinics, and a very busy consultation/liaison service supporting the hospitals in the LHD.
- Involvement in research is actively encouraged and supported and there is potential to enrol in a higher degree.
- You will be expected to be involved with teaching and supervision of Junior Medical Officers attached to the service both formal and ad hoc including supervision with patient admissions, investigations and management at Nepean Hospital.
Essential requirements
- MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a tertiary setting.
- Completion of a minimum of 4 years clinical practice in an area or areas of medicine linked to Addiction Medicine.
- Experience in addiction medicine or general medicine within a hospital setting.
- Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
- The position holder is expected to be registered as an opioid substitution therapy prescriber.
- To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.

- Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and self-education.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
