POSITION SUMMARY
Assists members in ordering eyeglasses and lenses. Adjusts and dispenses eyeglasses and contacts. Measures and determines bifocal and multifocal placement. Processes orders. Oversees non-licensed apprentices. Cleans department area. Assists members while providing prompt and courteous member service. Follows proper safety and security procedures and standards.
Job Duties/Essential Functions
- Coach, train and mentor other Optical department employees
- Assist members with choosing eyeglasses frames and lens options appropriate to prescription
- Fit and adjust lenses to eyeglass frames
- Dispense eyeglasses and contacts
- Measure member’s eyes for pupillary distance and determine bifocal placement
- Answer questions and addresses problems regarding prescriptions
- Place special orders to outside suppliers
- Stock department equipment, merchandise and supplies
- Follows department procedures and standards for production, record keeping, merchandising and merchandise storage
- Cleans department and ensure the register’s cleanliness
- Take optical measurements and educate members on best products to meet visual aids
- Count register at sign on
- Order change, cash, and increase loans when needed
- Make witnessed drops/deposits of excess funds to the vault
- Order cash increases and counts own register at shift end to maintain accurate register funds
- Receive accurate payment for merchandise, make change, process checks, credit, and debit changes according to proper departmental procedures for paperwork and the performance of duties
- Exercise discretion and confidentiality with all patient information
- Follow proper Optical Centre, general safety, and security procedures and standards
- Assist in other departments of the warehouse as necessary
- Provide prompt and courteous customer service to members, employees and suppliers.
Ability to operate vehicles, equipment or machinery
- Computer, phone, copier, cash register, cardboard baler, trash compactor, hand held scanner, pupilometer, lensometer, frame warmer, small pliers and screwdriver.
Non-Essential Functions
- Assists with front end duties and in other departments of the warehouse as necessary.
Qualifications (Costco-specific or industry specific skills that candidates should possess):
Education/Training: High School Certificate or higher
Licenses/Certifications: Experience within the Optical Industry Beneficial
Experience/Skills: Appropriate Optometry or equivalent experience preferred
Demonstrated outstanding patient care
Strong customer service, interpersonal and communication
skills Basic knowledge of Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
Basic math skills
