Step into a pivotal role where you'll drive compliance by investigating development and building matters, gathering evidence and representing Council in legal proceedings to uphold legislative standards.

About the role:

  • Undertake compliance investigations and actions related to development and building matters within legislative frameworks.
  • Apply expert knowledge of the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and Regulation to ensure lawful and effective outcomes.
  • Deliver high-quality customer service, particularly when resolving complaints and providing advice addressing community concerns.
  • Manage tasks proactively and independently, meeting deadlines with strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare written reports and correspondence using Council’s Record Management system in line with legal and organisational requirements.

We are seeking:

  • Holds a diploma qualification or higher in town planning, building, environmental engineering, environmental protection, law or similar discipline or nearing completion.
  • Brings strong experience in compliance roles, with proven ability to interpret legislation and present evidence in legal settings.
  • High written and oral communication skills, with experience in conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
  • Works independently, manages competing priorities effectively and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Is tech-savvy with advanced computer skills, a current driver's licence and a solid understanding of planning and compliance legislation.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
