Salary:

Building Surveyor – Compliance: $96,731 – $101,823 p.a. + super (based on experience)

Compliance Officer – Building: $85,751 - $90,264 p.a. + super (based on experience)

The Development Services team plays a vital role in ensuring safe and compliant development across the City. Whether you’re an experienced Building Surveyor or an emerging Compliance Officer, you’ll be part of a professional and collaborative team that values integrity, service excellence, and community impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Investigate and resolve complaints related to building compliance
  • Provide technical advice on breaches of the Building Act, Regulations, and Council policies
  • Process Building Approval Certificates and Occupancy Permits for unauthorised works
  • Prepare reports, collect evidence, and support legal proceedings
  • Assist in training and mentoring junior officers and technical staff
  • Collaborate with planning and health services to resolve cross-functional compliance issues

About You

We welcome applications from both experienced Building Surveyors and those looking to grow into the role via the Compliance Officer pathway. You’ll ideally bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Building or a related discipline (for Building Surveyor role)
  • Registration as a Building Surveyor Practitioner in WA (Level 1 or 2)
  • Strong knowledge of statutory building control in a local government context
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to investigate and resolve complaints with professionalism and empathy
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Local government experience (desirable)
