The opportunity
We are currently seeking an experienced Control Systems Specialist to join our Port based team at the Karara Export Terminal located in Geraldton.
The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of mining/port environment and associated equipment, with experience working across all areas of PLC and SCADA control systems, providing technical support to the maintenance and operations teams with a continuous improvement focus.
This role is residential and operates within the Port of Geraldton on a 5 days on and 3 days off / 4 days on and 2 days off roster.
To be eligible to apply you must be residing in the Geraldton area or be prepared to relocate at own cost.
To be successful in the role, the following is essential:
- An Electrical qualification or Computer Science with proven control systems experience
- Minimum 5 years working on PCS in an engineering environment
- GE Proficy Machine Edition version 8.5 or higher programing software, training and experience
- GE Cimplicity SCADA version 8.2 or higher programing software, training and experience
- Experience or Certificate of Attainment/Participation - Microsoft Windows Server, Ethernet Industrial network and FieldBus
- Experience working with Windows 2019 Servers and Industrial Ethernet networking
- Electrical, electronic and data communications knowledge, Profibus DP and PA. Modbus/TCP and 4-20mA
- Experience working across all areas of a PLC and SCADA control system
- Experience in Microsoft SQL data base operations
- Must have Australian Citizenship or hold a valid visa with permission to work
- A current National Police clearance required to obtain an MSIC
Key Duties:
- Develop and participate in the overall planning and execution of the Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems
- Provide expert technical knowledge on Process Control Systems, standards and specialised maintenance for plant improvement and maintenance projects to stakeholders including Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Technicians
- Develop and maintain the Process Control System, identifying improvement opportunities while maintaining associated documentation and control system procedures
- Configure and maintain of Fieldbus equipment on Control-net, Profibus DP and PA networks also utilising protocols such as MODBUS/TCP, DNP3, RS232, RS485, TCP/IP and EGD (inter PLC communications)
- Assist with the configuration and maintenance of the Plant Historian and associated software packages contributing to the Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
About Karara Mining
Located 200 km south-east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
