Job Description
An exceptional opportunity exists for an experienced Editor to lead WAtoday and drive impactful journalism that resonates with both WA and national audiences. This leadership role is responsible for setting and executing the editorial vision, managing staff, and collaborating with editors across The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, and Brisbane Times.
The successful candidate will have strong editing and leadership skills, a deep understanding of key news issues in WA, and a passion for growing digital subscriptions. This role is central to enhancing editorial quality, audience engagement and upholding newsroom values.
Day to day you will:
- Implement the editorial vision and strategy for WAtoday.
- Lead the news agenda in WA and explain local issues for national readers.
- Drive high standards of journalism.
- Manage and develop a team of journalists, providing feedback and fostering a collaborative environment.
- Understand and meet the needs of our WA and national audiences.
- Manage budgets effectively and work within agreed resource parameters.
Qualifications
What you'll bring:
- Outstanding journalistic background with first-rate news judgment.
- Proven ability to identify and develop agenda-setting journalism.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of target markets.
- Strong leadership, budgeting and staff management skills.
- Excellent organisation and time management.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams across different locations.
