About the role

Water Corporation is on a mission to accelerate environmental sustainability, and we’re looking for a passionate and experienced environmental professional to help us lead that charge. As a Specialist – Environment, you will play a critical role in driving environmental regulatory compliance, assurance and auditing programs, and performance metrics that support our strategic direction, Thrive 2035.

You will be part of our Environmental Business Unit, reporting to the Team Leader – Governance, Assurance and Performance. Your work will help shape how we manage environmental risks, meet regulatory requirements, and make data-driven decisions for a more sustainable future.

What the role will involve

Compliance & Assurance:

  • Support the development and implementation of credible, science-based environmental performance metrics.
  • Undertake environmental assurance and audit activities against internal processes and external approvals.
  • Advise on regulatory expectations and environmental approvals implementation across the lifecycle of Water Corporation assets.

Strategy & Governance:

  • Contribute to frameworks and systems that measure and govern our environmental compliance and sustainability objectives.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders across operational, planning and project teams.
  • Provide strategic advice, policy input and technical support on environmental issues and legal compliance.

Asset Planning & Operations:

  • Guide environmental risk analysis and mitigation strategies in asset planning and acquisition.
  • Ensure environmental considerations are integrated into business decisions.
  • Deliver quality-assured technical advice to support operational teams.
  • Assist in the preparation of Environmental Approval Delivery and environmental management of contractors.

Leadership & Culture:

  • Act as a role model for safety, continuous improvement, collaboration and organisational-wide thinking.
  • Foster an inclusive, respectful and performance-driven team culture.

Key skills and experience

  • A degree-level qualification in environmental science or a related discipline.
  • Substantial experience in environmental auditing, approval implementations and compliance processes.
  • A strong understanding of environmental legislation and its application in multi-asset industrial or operational facilities.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships, particularly within a large complex organisation and with environmental regulators.
  • Expertise in interpreting legal and regulatory requirements and translating them into business outcomes.
  • High-level communication skills, a proactive mindset and strong planning, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
