Mechanical Estimating Manager
About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimating Manager to lead the estimating team in support of a major Project Tenders. In this key leadership role, you will be responsible for delivering accurate, detailed, and competitive cost estimates for complex mechanical systems, including turbines, pipework, and auxiliary equipment.
This role plays a key role in both the tendering and project planning phases. Working closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, and subcontractors, you will help develop cost-effective pricing strategies that align with technical requirements and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the preparation mechanical cost estimates.
- Conduct Tender reviews
- Performance Management for Estimating Teams
- Interpret and review complex technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation
- Manage and coordinate supplier and subcontractor engagement for accurate material, equipment and service pricing
- Analyse and validate material, labour, and equipment costs
- Support tender submissions with cost breakdowns and feasibility data
- Collaborate proactively with project managers, engineers, and senior management to ensure estimate reflect all aspects of project scope
- Maintain estimating tools and cost data libraries
- Identify and implement opportunities for value engineering and cost savings
Experience required:
- 5 to 10 + years’ experience in mechanical estimating roles, including significant experience in gas, energy, or heavy industrial sectors
- In-depth understanding of mechanical construction, and installation methods
- Proven track record in preparing first-principles cost estimates and developing bid packages
- Strong commercial awareness and understanding of procurement and subcontracting principles
- Proficient in planning, organising and working to timelines and scheduling
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Clear understanding of Appropriate Australian Codes and Standards, OH&S Codes and Standards
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills and ability to work under tight deadlines
- Ability to assess and manage risk in cost planning
