PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
Is to undertake standard husbandry practices which ensure the health and welfare of birds. This involves monitoring feed, water intake, body weights, conducting clinical examinations and autopsies from time to time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand and actively support the implementation of the Hazeldene’s Quality Policy and quality systems.
- Work to verbal and/or written instructions provided by the Farm Manager
- Undertake or reorganise any work procedure as directed by the Farm Manager or as deemed necessary in the absence of a member of staff.
- Pickup, remove and dispose of dead birds to quarantine standards.
- Ensure that farm operating procedures are cost effective whilst meeting operational guidelines.
- In conjunction with other staff, assist in farm cleanouts and wash down as required.
- Assist in the transfer or depopulation of birds as directed by the Farm Manager.
- Ensure all farm administration is performed to Hazeldene’s guidelines, including the completion of all relevant reports and documentation. Such paperwork to be completed within the required timeframes.
- Undertake basic repairs and maintenance of sheds and facilities to ensure appropriate and optimal operation. Premises and surrounding amenities to be well maintained.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of Safe Work Practises. Support and implement the Company’s Occupational Health & Safety Policy – support employees/ work groups to ensure area is incident/ accident free.
- Perform all work in a safe manner and proactively report any incidents and/or hazards.
- Carry out vaccination and grading of birds to Hazeldene’s Chicken Farm standards.
- Maintain a satisfactory standard of dress code and hygiene.
- Refrain from any association with other avian (bird) species or work on any other commercial poultry operation while employed with Hazeldene’s Chicken Farm unless approval has been given by the Farming Manager.
- Report to the Farm Manager any hazards or maintenance problems that would be detrimental to the safe running of the farm.
- Ensure on farm activities comply with relevant Acts, legal demands and standards. Ensure adherence to the relevant quality standards, confer with the appropriate Hazeldene’s personnel on applications of methods, production standards and safety programs.
- Generally be an active member of the farming staff, working to develop a positive team, being aware of other people’s functions and providing additional support when requested.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding the business of Hazeldene’s Chicken Farm Pty. Ltd.
- Ensure strict compliance with the principles of quarantine, vermin control and biosecurity by all Hazeldene’s farming operations
