Australia Post’s Freight Services BU is at the heart of our business. Creating the product, pricing and analytics infrastructure that makes the delivery of around 750 million parcels a year, supporting eCommerce throughout Australia and connecting Australian Business with domestic consumers, each other and international customers.
To be the finance business partner of this division is to take on a role that is not found anywhere else in the country. Due to two promotions, the Finance Manager was promoted and the finance business partner was promoted to the finance manager position, we are recruiting for a rare and challenging opportunity for a highly commercial finance business partner with excellent stakeholder management skills to partner with a division with a $6bn profile.
About the opportunity
Supporting the finance manager, you will provide strategic, commercial and financial insights into the Freight Services team. Working with such teams as Parcel Product Management, Out of Home services, the commercial insights and analytics teams and the product strategy teams. You will be at the forefront of our business, you will gain exposure to senior leaders on a daily basis and you will work closely with them to help make sound decisions based on accurate financial information.
How you will have an impact
You will have a wide ranging role, with the main aim of providing strategic, commercial and financial insights to the freight services team. You’ll play a key part in shaping the decisions through financial insight and analysis for a $6bn portfolio, using your insights and commercial acumen to help make judgement calls based on financial and commercial data.
You will be partnering with key stakeholders across product management to ensure they are provided with accurate and timely financial information, partnering with the business in preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, tracking of business initiatives and analysing their financial benefits.
You’ll also
- Build and maintain strong and trusted relationships with the product teams and internal finance stakeholders.
- Provide data driven commercial insights to Freight Services, enabling them to make informed decisions to deliver business strategies.
- Analyse and provide commercial advice and insights to ensure financial outcomes for the parcels business.
- Take accountability for month end reporting, planning & forecasting. Including accurate and timely mid month estimates, quarterly forecasts, annual budgets and the presentation of monthly insights to key stakeholders.
- Analyse and monitor budgetary assumptions and results that ensure operational performance, profitability and capital maximisation.
- Play a key role in new product development and provide insightful advice on new opportunities and target markets.
About you
You will be a high achieving finance and accounting professional who is able not just to translate accounting results and reports into information for commercial stakeholders, but to help them understand what it means and work with them on the options & scenarios available to them from the financial information.
You will have excellent and proven commercial acumen and an ability to navigate the complexity that comes from a nationwide freight services division and $6bn revenue portfolio, you will have proven success in finance, planning & analysis in other roles where business partnering is paramount. You will also be able to demonstrate commercial achievements where you have partnered with a business and be able to show a track record of results.
You’ll also need
- Experience and an understanding of financial control & reporting to understand where the numbers are coming from, and to interrogate them if required.
- High level financial, analytical, interpretive and problem solving skills. The ability to look at problems from an accounting perspective, but also to anticipate and understand other perspectives and put multiple lenses on a problem / solution.
- Be able to correlate and sift data from a wide variety of sources, interrogate the data and information that you are given and translate that into business performance insights.
- Have excellent systems skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, and some experience with data visualisation tools. Excellent written communication skills, demonstrating an ability to develop and document procedures and provide reporting accurately to relevant stakeholders. An ability to get your message across concisely and accurately.
