WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
Carlton Methodist Church (CMC) is looking for a theologically trained, suitably qualified pastor to partner with and lead our English congregation. The English Pastor, together with the Minister In‐Charge and the Local Church Executive Committee (LCEC), will work together to provide spiritual leadership of the Church and shepherd the flock in accordance with scriptural teachings and the objects and Doctrines of the Church.
We invite applicants who are passionate about the Word of God and prioritize the faithful handling of God’s word as they instruct, teach and build up believers in faith.
WHO WE ARE
We are a protestant, evangelical, church in Carlton, Sydney, Australia, part of the larger Chinese Methodist Church of Australia (CMCA).
We come from all parts of Sydney and are made up of a Chinese and English congregation. We are multi‐generational, come from various faith backgrounds, and are predominantly composed of members from Chinese migrant groups (although there
is a growing number of other ethnicities). Members of our congregation have come through both internal ministries and from the wider community, mostly in local area but also from wider Sydney.
We are characterised by a focus on the authority of scripture in the training and discipleship of faithful followers of Christ. We strive to be a genuine community where deep relationships are formed and support the building up of faithful generations who are passionate for Christ in serving and loving the wider church.
WHAT WE DO
We have one Sunday morning service held in English and we welcome worshippers from all backgrounds. Our main ministries include Sunday School, Friday youth group, numerous young adult fellowship groups, and adult fellowship groups.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The role will involve being engaged as a Local Pastor, which does not require ordination in CMCA.
Key responsibilities and roles
- Be the primary individual responsible for proclaiming the Word of God to the English congregation, particularly with respect to sermons within our weekly Sunday services
- each Biblical truths in small groups and/or discipleship to promote Christian growth and maturity
- Oversee, guide, provide training and support for all ministries of the English congregation including fellowship groups,youth and Sunday school ministries
- Provide pastoral care for the sick, visit members/parishioners
- Provide pastoral care, discipleship and leadership rooted in Biblical truths to congregation members of all ages and backgrounds to promote Christian growth and maturity
- Conduct classes for baptism, membership, and marriage preparation as required.
- Other duties as required by the Local Church Executive Committee
ABOUT YOU
Applicants should be passionate about the flourishing of the church and prioritise faithfully handling God’s word, to instruct, teach and build up believers in faith.
Qualifications
- Hold a theological degree ‐ Bachelor of Theology (BTh) or Masters of Divinity (MDiv) from a recognized theological seminary/Bible college.
- Be fluent in English
- Permanent resident/citizen of Australia
- Obtained a National Police Check and Working with Children Check
- Have a valid driver’s license and means of transport
Character
- Qualifications of an elder as in 1 Timothy 3:1‐7 and Titus 1:5‐9
- To be of good standing within the church and the wider community
- Teachable and willing to learn, displaying an ability to work both with and under authority, in the context of ministry teams and under the leadership of the Minister‐in‐Charge
- Authentic servant‐hearted Christian leadership
- Ability to work collaboratively with leaders within church governance and structure
- A life that demonstrates prayerfulness, grace and the transforming sanctifying work of God
COMPENSATION
Packaged remuneration commensurate with experience and circumstances.
