Most of our work is with strata complexes, where we provide both gardening and common property cleaning services. About the Role:
We’re searching for a skilled Leading Hand who can step into a 2IC role within our small team. This is a hands-on position with responsibility for driving, supervising, and maintaining sites.
Your day will include:
- Picking up the manual work vehicle from our depot in East Kurrajong and travelling to multiple strata sites across Ryde, Parramatta and Sydney surrounds
- Leading a small crew on site, ensuring tasks are completed to a high standard
- Performing 80% gardening tasks (mowing, hedging, pruning, weeding, planting, turf care) and 20% cleaning tasks (vacuuming stairwells with backpack vacs, sweeping, mopping, window/glass cleaning, common property tidying)
- Using initiative to fix or remediate issues immediately on site without waiting for instruction
- Operating and maintaining equipment safely (mowers, blowers, hedgers, trimmers)
- This full-time position offers a consistent schedule of 7 am to ~3 pm, 5 days a week, with the possibility of overtime.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, inspire, and manage a small team of gardeners.
Oversee and carry out all aspects of both soft and hard landscaping at times.
Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently.
Assist with leading a team of maintenance staff and demonstrate the ability to work autonomously to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
Follow schedules and prioritise tasks to ensure timely completion of garden maintenance activities, including planting, hedging, weeding, pruning, and fertilising.
Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to the team to enhance their horticultural skills and safety practices.
Regularly inspect garden areas to assess their condition, identify improvements needed, and implement corrective actions.
Cleaning:
Meticulously clean and maintain common areas such as hallways, pathways, outdoor furniture, and entryways.
Ensure all outdoor spaces are free of litter and debris.
Perform general cleaning and sanitising of stairwells and common property, including vacuuming, mopping, cleaning glass surfaces, dusting, and wiping down windowsills.
Gardening:
Maintain and enhance outdoor areas, including lawns, gardens, and landscaped spaces.
Skilfully operate and maintain gardening equipment such as lawn mowers, edgers, hedge trimmers, and leaf blowers.
Carry out planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, and watering activities to ensure healthy and vibrant gardens.
Monitor plant health, identify pests or diseases, and apply appropriate treatments.
Ensure outdoor areas are tidy, safe, and aesthetically pleasing.
Basic gardening and lawn care (lawn mowing, edging, blowing, hedging) with some general cleaning and sanitising of stairwells and common property.
Travel:
Travel between various locations to service multiple sites across Sydney from East Kurrajong.
Specific Requirements
- Must be able to get to East Kurrajong depot each morning
- A valid Australian driver’s license (manual licence essential)
- Experience in gardening, landscaping or horticulture (Certificate III preferred but not essential)
- Proven ability to lead a small team, delegate tasks, and motivate junior staff
- Physically fit to carry equipment (e.g., backpack vacuums up/down stairwells, push mowers, trimming)
- Presentable and professional – you’ll be representing us on strata sites
- Reliable, punctual, trustworthy, and able to work independently
- Full working rights in Australia
- A strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- A genuine enthusiasm for working outdoors and in all weather conditions.
