Dandenong North Primary School enjoys a long-standing reputation as a family-friendly and academically successful school. While the school was once North of Dandenong it has to be considered closer to the heart of Dandenong in modern times. In keeping with the re-generation of Dandenong as a thriving multi-cultural hub, the actual buildings of Dandenong North Primary School have undergone a transformation to bring the facilities into the 21st Century. Because of the ideal size of our school with over 800 students we are provided with the resources that allow us to offer an ideal mix of specialist programs that include: Physical Education, Art, Library, English as an Additional Language, Extension activities in English Writing, Information Technology, and a number of voluntary lunch-time programs. We are also in a position to provide intervention programs for any student who may need additional support in the key areas of reading and mathematics.

We are highly skilled at providing smooth transitional pathways into the Australian Curriculum for all of our International students. We operate an innovative two-week Reception Program for newly arrived students and an outstanding, three-part English as an Additional Language program (EAL).

Selection Criteria

SC1 Demonstrated ability to undertake a range of maintenance and gardening duties appropriate to a school environment, including the prioritising of tasks.
SC2 Describe your technical knowledge and expertise and the application of these skills in the role of school maintenance.
SC3 Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively in a team environment, including high level oral and written communication skills.
SC4 Demonstrated capacity to provide advice and support to management and other school staff in respect to the work area.
SC5 Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently while adhering to safety standards and school procedures.
SC6 Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of OHS guidelines and practices

Role

Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

The role has specific responsibilities which include the following, but not limited to:
  • Security: Unlocking of the school at 7.15am each morning that school is open.
  • Perform routine maintenance of school facilities, including but not limited to patching and painting, door repairs, removal of graffiti and other debris, cleaning up and temporary securing of broken windows and doors.
  • Conducting building and grounds checks for hazards, repairs needed, work required and address issues accordingly.
  • Maintain outdoor areas including lawns, garden maintenance (pruning, weeding, mulching, watering/feeding), playgrounds, oval, footpaths, and parking lots.
  • Ensure all tools and maintenance equipment are properly used and maintained, including the correct storage of chemicals
  • Assist with event setup and takedown, including moving furniture, equipment, and setting up rooms as needed.
  • Moving of equipment as required (example classroom supplies, end of year classroom movement).
  • Support with ordering and purchasing of goods and equipment as required, including replenishing maintenance and sanitary supplies throughout the school.
  • Follow appropriate OH&S and risk management procedures and ensure OH&S requirements and legislated standards are met. Addressing where feasible, any health and safety hazards.
  • Tradespeople: Calling, obtaining quotes, inducting and working with tradespeople as required.
  • Maintain amenities/minor cleaning tasks where required to ensure OHS requirements are met.
  • Retrieving items from rooftops (following working at heights protocols), and maintenance of gutters and drains.
  • Comply with the Department of Education school-level policies and procedures.
  • Keep storage facilities clean, tidy and safe, including signage for OHS risks.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by the Principal Team.
  • A current driver's licence is required for this position
  • The position requires attendance during school vacation periods.
