Position Information

Lightning Ridge Central School is in the north-east corner of the Western NSW Region. It is 270kms km from Moree. The school utilises its unique environment as a feature in many of its learning activities and studies. Lightning Ridge Central School is vibrant and inclusive with approximately 302 students. 61% of the students identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. The school operates an Aboriginal Language Nest and endeavours to embrace the local Yuwaalaraay culture and language. It also acknowledges and celebrates the wide diversity of non-indigenous cultures within the school and broader community. The school has excellent facilities, which include well-maintained classrooms in pleasant, green surroundings. The school has a comprehensive library and very high levels of technology for student learning. The school currently has 39 teachers and 25 administration and support staff, which includes additional temporary staff employed through school-based funding to better support the learning needs of all students. Additional resources are allocated to provide tiered support to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for all students in Kindergarten to Year 12. In addition to the academic pursuits the school provides a broad range of activities including the performing arts, cultural, leadership and sporting experiences. Schools play a critical role in rural and remote communities. Lightning Ridge Central School is committed to strengthen its partnership with the community. Lightning Ridge Central School strives to positively contribute to the district and the school facilities are readily available for community use and is regularly used by a number of groups and organisations.


Selection Criteria

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. Ability to be a dynamic member of the executive leadership team, implementing professional learning and leading initiatives that address whole school strategic directions with an emphasis on enhancing professional practice and student achievement.

2. Demonstrated ability to inspire and lead staff in delivering high-quality, evidence-informed teaching and learning programs that enhance student engagement and foster a culture of high expectations for student achievement.

3. Demonstrated ability to lead a team fostering a strong understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal education, including embedding Aboriginal perspectives, cultural safety, community partnerships, high expectations, and educational equity.


General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
