Join Our Team as a Zero-Emission Bus (ZEB) HSEQ Coordinator!

Are you a self-starter who thrives with little to no supervision, bringing a strong background in construction and a passion for sustainability and safety? We’re looking for an experienced HSEQ Coordinator to join our Zero-Emission Bus (ZEB) project team on a fixed-term contract until September 2026.

This role will be based across our Kingsgrove and Leichhardt depots, with the flexibility to occasionally work from home depending on your level of independence and ability to work under minimal supervision.

About the Role

As the HSEQ Coordinator, you’ll play a hands-on role in ensuring our Zero-Emission Bus projects, from electrical infrastructure construction to battery electric bus deployment, meet the highest health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

What We’re Looking For

  • A self-starter who can work autonomously but also thrives in a team environment.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage varying hours as business needs change.
  • Experienced working with subcontractors and building sites, and willing to be on the ground, hands-on, and detail-focused.
  • Experienced in the construction industry, with exposure to infrastructure projects highly regarded.
  • Confident in assessing risks, ensuring compliance, and driving safety standards.
  • Strong knowledge of HSEQ regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent qualifications (desirable).

Principal Responsibilities

  • Implement comprehensive HSEQ management systems and procedures and ensure that all project activities comply with relevant regulations, standards and client requirements.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments for project activities, identify mitigation measures to minimise risks and provide guidance and support to project teams in implementing risk controls and safety measures.
  • Investigate project incidents, accidents and hazards / near misses to determine causes and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Deliver HSEQ training programs for project personnel, subcontractors and other stakeholders, including site inductions.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements throughout the project lifecycle and implement measures to minimise project environmental impacts.
  • Establish quality assurance and control procedures to ensure project deliverables meet specified requirements and standards.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to verify the quality of workmanship and materials and facilitate the resolution of quality and non-conformance issues.

HIGHLY DESIREABLE SKILLS

  • Proven project management expertise within the construction, engineering, or transportation industries.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field; alternatively, completion of equivalent HSEQ courses.
  • Relevant hands-on experience in a construction company.
  • A self-starter who can work autonomously but also thrives in a team environment.

The Benefits

  • Health & Wellbeing Support – free, confidential counselling services and wellness resources.
  • COMPASS Values Culture – be part of a values-driven team committed to safety, innovation, and customer service.
  • Free Travel on NSW Buses with an Employee Opal Pass (conditions apply).
  • Employee Travel Discounts – up to 25% off SeaLink Marine & Tourism products.
