Life at Mission Australia
When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we advocate for a fairer Australia, to meet the growing needs of people across the country. Together we’re building hope and possibility for all.
Your opportunity
Join us in a role where your cybersecurity skills can really make a difference. As a Security Analyst at Mission Australia, you’ll be the go-to for 2nd and 3rd line support on security issues, seeing you jumping in to investigate incidents, respond quickly to threats, and keep our systems safe and secure.
You’ll work across everything from networking and infrastructure to operating systems and cloud platforms, spotting vulnerabilities before they become problems and putting strong protections in place. It’s hands-on, varied, and important work that helps our teams focus on what they do best, supporting Australians in need, while you keep the tech side of things locked down!
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- Identify and respond to security events quickly - investigating breaches, resolving incidents, and keeping threats at bay.
- Work closely with external vendors to escalate and resolve issues, while actively monitoring for emerging risks and vulnerabilities.
- Implement, maintain, and enhance security infrastructure and protection tools (including AIP & DLP) to keep our systems secure and resilient.
- Drive continuous security improvements through vulnerability management, hardening, attack surface reduction, and effective identity and access controls.
- Document and maintain clear security processes, standards, and guidelines while supporting risk identification, assessment, and mitigation.
- Promote a strong security culture by running awareness programs, engaging the wider organisation, and participating in third-party audits.
- Continuously refine monitoring processes to boost efficiency and strengthen our security posture.
- Deliver expert security administration and incident management, designing and operating controls that protect information systems, managing timely responses to incidents, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
- Support and optimise IT infrastructure and change management, measuring performance, identifying risks, and implementing changes that strengthen availability, security, and overall service quality.
Requirements for success
- 3–5 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally in incident response or within a SOC, with the drive to step up into a broader role.
- Background in related tech domains such as systems administration or network engineering (a plus).
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft security technologies (or similar) such as Defender ATP, AIP, Azure Security Centre, DLP, Sentinel.
- Proficiency with ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to engage professionally in person and over the phone.
- Formal security and cloud-related qualifications/certifications are highly regarded (e.g., penetration testing, incident handling, Microsoft Azure).
- Thrives under pressure, with excellent time management, problem-solving, and lateral thinking skills.
- Clear and confident communicator, both written and verbal, who enjoys collaborating as part of a team.
Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.
Your benefits
- Rewarding work – every day you know you’re making a real difference
- Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax
- Free external, confidential counselling
- Volunteering opportunities
- Opportunity to purchase additional annual leave
- Extra leave including: Mission Australia Thank You Day & Work Anniversary Day off
