About the opportunity
The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated Lecturer in Entomology (Education-focused) to be based at the Camperdown Campus.
The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) brings together researchers in the life, earth and environmental sciences to improve teaching and build new infrastructure to support and enhance capacity in research and teaching. Key undergraduate teaching majors and degrees include biology, ecology and evolutionary biology, genetics and genomics, marine science, microbiology, plant science, soil science, animal and veterinary science, wildlife conservation and agriculture.
Working within the Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Theme, the successful candidate is expected to dedicate the majority of their contribution to education (70%) and will have opportunities to contribute positively to the scholarly and teaching activities of the School, Faculty, and broader University community.
The candidate will support and coordinate undergraduate Units of Study and undertake curriculum development and innovation (both practical and theoretical), class management, supervision and lecturing in these Units (and into additional units, where required and relevant). The position will also support the academic coordinators of other units within the Ecology, Evolutionary Biology and Conservation theme as required. The successful candidate
The successful candidate will have a strong background in Entomology and related areas of Biology and have demonstrated experience as a committed and effective educator. They will be highly organized and preferably have experience in the management of undergraduate courses including lecturing, tutorials, practical class management, assessment, record keeping, WHS and other associated tasks.
They will understand the principles and pedagogy of good assessment design, constructively aligning assessment tasks to learning outcomes. They will have a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students, facilitating and guiding their learning in theory and practical sessions, and undertaking appropriate pastoral care. They will appreciate the increasing influence of AI into educational procedures and work effectively to incorporate technology into their teaching and approaches to assessment.

a PhD in Entomology or related field
A demonstrated track record of excellence in undergraduate teaching of Entomology and in other first year biology/ecology related areas, including the delivery of lectures, tutorials, workshops and laboratory-based practical and field classes
Demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives in Entomology, including assessment practices
A demonstrated capacity to stimulate and actively engage undergraduate students and enable a supportive, safe and inclusive learning environment
Demonstrated experience coordinating or supporting coordination of a unit of study (desirable)
Well-developed capabilities in delivering online access to teaching materials and learning activities using a learning management system (eg. CANVAS) and can present a portfolio of work in this area (desirable)
A demonstrated record of service, governance and high-level engagement (either through their work at a university or through association with a non-university organisation - desirable)
excellent time management, demonstrated written and oral communication skills, and collegiality
experience of relevant Work, Health and Safety requirements and management including laboratory and field work
Professional practice and development in teaching and learning, is working towards an Advance HE fellowship, Graduate Certificate in Higher Education or equivalent professional learning (desirable).
