About the Role

Newington College seeks innovative and inspirational educators to join the Mathematics Department on a permanent full-time basis, commencing Term 1, 2026.

The Mathematics Department aims to develop and enhance our students' confidence and enjoyment in mathematics, as well as their knowledge, skills and understanding of syllabus content. We also foster students' awareness of the role mathematics plays in solving everyday problems.

We recognise that students learn best when motivated and that mathematical learning occurs within a context of intellectual, physical, and social growth. Our department comprises 22 teaching staff who work in a cohesive and collegial environment, supporting both student achievement and professional development.

About Our Programme

Our students embrace the rigour of mathematics. Since 2024, all Year 9 students work towards the IGCSE Mathematics course. In the senior years, the College offers both the International Baccalaureate Diploma and the Higher School Certificate, with a significant increase in students studying Mathematics Extension 1 and IB Higher Level Mathematics over the past two years.

Students are encouraged to participate in various mathematics competitions and projects under the auspices of the Australasian Problem-Solving Mathematical Olympiads (APSMO) and the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT). Our mathematics results are consistently excellent, reflecting our commitment to mathematical excellence across all ability levels.

The successful candidates will teach mathematics across various year levels, contribute to curriculum development, and support our vibrant co-curricular mathematics programme. You will join a supportive department that values collaboration, innovation, and student-centred learning. Having experience in teaching the IB or HSC Engineering Studies is desirable but not essential.

Our mission is to empower students to develop great hearts, inspired minds and strong wings, ready to make a positive contribution to society and the future.
