Your role

As a Medic, you’ll provide essential healthcare services to the sick and wounded, onboard ships or ashore. You’ll be responsible for supporting and maintaining the health and wellbeing of Navy members.

You'll apply your knowledge to both conventional and unconventional injuries and illnesses in a variety of situations and environments. Your typical day could include providing advanced first aid, nursing care, in-patient healthcare, assisting with evacuation of casualties or managing medical supplies.

Submariner:

There is also the option to specialise as a Medic Submariner and be a part of the most exclusive and stable workforce in Australia. Your role will be to provide medical care to support and maintain the health and wellbeing of your fellow submariners in an environment completely unlike anything you’d find in a civilian role.

Salary:
Upon completion of your initial military and employment training, you’ll enjoy a salary package starting from $83,610 for surface fleet and $103,068 for submariners.

Period of Service requirements:

You’ll be enlisted for an Initial Minimum Period of Service (IMPS) of 3 years. Subsequent periods of service may be offered subject to the requirements of the ADF and your suitability for further service.

Fitness requirements:

A Pre-entry Fitness Assessment (PFA) is no longer a requirement for Navy roles, except for Divers. To join the Navy, it's important that you meet the necessary medical and physical requirements. Regular exercise prior to joining will set you up for success as it is an important part of training and service life.

Once you join, Navy will support your physical conditioning to ensure you're prepared to serve. You'll also have access to chef-made meals, gyms, sports and fitness sessions run by physical training instructors.

For this role, you must be over 17 at time of enlistment, an Australian Citizen and have passed Year 11 (or equivalent) with passes in English, Biology (WA: any of the human biological science disciplines) and Year 10 Maths (at a minimum). Year 11 Chemistry is also highly desirable.
