Ready to Change Lives in the Northern Region?

Join UnitingSA as a Mental Health Worker / Peer Support Worker

Full-Time | Initially a 6-Month Contract with Potential for Extension

Do you light up when empowering others to reach their potential? Are you driven by a passion for mental health, inclusion, and making a meaningful impact? If this sounds like you, we want you on our team.

Whether you’ve walked your own mental health recovery journey or bring professional expertise, your experience matters. At UnitingSA, we believe in creating “a compassionate, respectful, and just community in which all people participate and flourish.” If that resonates with you, this could be the perfect role.

We’re looking for a passionate Mental Health Worker / Peer Support Worker to help us create meaningful change in the vibrant and diverse communities of the Northern Region. From culturally rich neighbourhoods to growing suburban hubs, this region offers a dynamic environment where your work can truly make a difference.

This is a full-time opportunity, offered initially as a 6-month contract with the possibility of extension. You’ll be part of a supportive, purpose-led team that values your contribution and is committed to your growth.

Why You Belong at UnitingSA

At UnitingSA, we’re more than an organisation, we’re a purpose-driven community. For over 100 years, we’ve been building a society where everyone has the opportunity to flourish. Guided by our values of respect, compassion, justice, diversity, and collaboration, we’re creating real change, and you can be part of it.

As a Mental Health Worker, you’ll be at the heart of this mission, helping people regain independence, connect to their communities, and achieve their goals.

The Role: Your Chance to Create Real Change

This isn’t just a job, it’s a chance to transform lives. In this role, you’ll:

  • Be a guide: Support individuals experiencing mental health challenges to access housing, develop life skills, and find their place in the community.
  • Be a motivator: Empower people to set and achieve personal goals, building confidence and independence.
  • Be a navigator: Help clients access the NDIS and other vital services.
  • Be a collaborator: Work alongside clients, carers, and care teams to develop personalised plans and achieve lasting outcomes.

Whether it’s helping someone attend their first community activity or guiding them through a challenging moment, every day will bring opportunities to make a lasting impact.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who’s not only skilled but passionate about making a difference. You’ll need:

  • Qualifications: Degree/Diploma in Human Services or Certificate IV in Community Services, Disability, Mental Health, or Mental Health Peer Work.
  • Checks: DHS Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening.
  • Experience: Working with people facing complex psychosocial challenges.
  • Skills: Compassionate, resilient, and skilled in crisis management and conflict resolution.

If you have lived experience of mental health recovery, you’ll also bring:

  • Inspiration: Instil hope and resilience through your personal journey.
  • Connection: Build trust with a compassionate, non-judgemental approach.
  • Cultural awareness: Support diverse communities with sensitivity and respect.
  • Trauma-informed care: Bring empathy and understanding to complex situations.

Why You’ll Love Working With Us

At UnitingSA, you’re not just an employee — you’re part of something bigger. Enjoy:

  • A meaningful role: Directly contribute to building a compassionate and inclusive community.
  • A values-driven team: Join a supportive environment where diversity is celebrated.
  • Growth opportunities: Access training and resources to support your development.
  • Flexibility: Work across different programs and settings to expand your impact.

What We Offer

We look after our team. Here’s what you can enjoy:

  • Salary Packaging: Up to $15,900 tax-free, plus $2,650 for meals and entertainment.
  • Leave Loading: 17.5% boost to your holiday pay.
  • Wellbeing Support: Free professional and personal support, plus health insurance discounts.
  • Career Growth: Ongoing training and upskilling.
  • Parental Leave: 16 weeks of paid leave.
