About the department
Austin Health is a paediatric teaching hospital providing General Paediatrics and specialised service in the treatment of Eating Disorders, Diabetes, Mental Health, and Epilepsy. There are excellent opportunities for registrars to be involved in the longitudinal care of patients in the community.
The Austin has a large Child and Adolescent mental health service with inpatient services, a mother-Baby unit, a large CAMHS outpatient service, and the Austin School. Registrars will have a wide exposure to mental health presentations through inpatients, outpatients, and consultations.
The Austin also has a Paediatric Emergency Department staffed with Paediatric Emergency Physicians, Paediatric Registrars, and Emergency Registrars.
About the role
Role Specific: General Paediatrics
- Patient support- provide appropriate patient care to all inpatients referred for a consult in a timely manner and outpatient clinics.
- Working across a seven-week rotating roster. This includes ward (day, evening, night), clinic, ED and standby on call when rostered.
- Support the Senior Medical Staff and other relevant registrars in the care of the Department’s patients.
- Attend the hospital regularly both in-hours and out-of-hours according to the daily duty statements and rosters.
- Participate in an on-call roster as required
- Provide clinical support for other registrars where this may be required due to workload or other unforeseen circumstances.
- Ensure that patients and their families are given adequate information upon which to base treatment decisions and follow-up.
About you
You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work and have a keen interest in developing your skillset.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:
- Minimum two-year post-graduate medical experience within paediatrics and Neonatal experience.
- Preferably advanced trainee (post FRACP exams)
