About the Role
Toll People is looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Officer to take ownership of the accurate and timely processing of payroll for our labour hire workforce. In this role, you’ll ensure compliance with relevant industrial instruments, EBAs, legislation, and internal policies. You’ll also collaborate with stakeholders to interpret pay rates and set up agreements within the payroll system. As a key point of contact for payroll queries, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring all employees are paid correctly and on time.
As the Payroll Officer, you will:
  • Payroll Processing & Compliance - Manage weekly payroll including timesheets, calculations, data entry, discrepancies, and manual checks, ensure correct pay per awards/EBAs, upload payroll files and resolve exceptions, process invoices and charges, and ensure compliance with legislation and Toll policies.
  • System & Data Management - Set up and maintain pay/charge rates in FT360, manage employee master data and database updates, and ensure timely submission of statutory documentation.
  • Payments & Reconciliations - Handle PAYG, superannuation, workers compensation, child support, garnishees, and other payments, perform reconciliations including leave and general ledger, and process end-of-month and end-of-year tasks.
  • Reporting & Audits - Prepare weekly/month-end reports, assist with audits and government surveys, and ensure accurate reporting of payroll-related expenses.
  • Customer Service & Teamwork - Respond to pay/invoice queries, support reception and general enquiries, assist candidates/customers, and work collaboratively to ensure timely, accurate payroll.
  • Continuous Improvement & Compliance -Identify process improvements, stay updated on legislative changes, and follow standard operating procedures.
About You:
  • Strong payroll processing skills with experience using a variety of Awards and EBAs across multiple business units and clients
  • Proficient in major payroll software packages and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders while maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a commitment to confidentiality and ethical practices
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment, adapting to changing business needs
  • Relevant qualifications such as a Leaving Certificate, with a diploma or degree in business, finance or a related field highly regarded
