Primary objective
Assists in the provision of comprehensive pharmacy services through the dispensing and distribution of medications. This
may include bulk distribution of pharmaceuticals, inventory management, purchasing, and technical training of staff and
organisation of daily workloads.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in dispensing prescriptions and pre-packing with the end product being checked by a pharmacist or doctor prior
to being delivered to the patient.
2. Follow developed Standard Operating Procedures relating to Technical Area Services.
3. Assist with the coordination of prescriptions, medication lists and medicines between the contracted pharmacies,
prisons, and outside agencies under the direction of a pharmacist including site visits when required.
4. Co-ordinate inventory management within the pharmacy department.
5. Purchase medicines in accordance with the Northern Territory Procurement Act.
6. Undertake bulk distribution of pharmaceuticals and answer non-clinical questions relating to medication supply, storage,
and availability.
7. Contribute to afterhours roster as required.
8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being
undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services, and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience undertaking stock control, storage, and transport requirements of medicines and a sound
understanding of the Northern Territory Poisons and Pharmacy Acts.
2. Demonstrated practical knowledge of the pharmaceutical benefits scheme in the hospital setting.
3. A proven commitment to ongoing development of professional knowledge and skills of self and others.
4. Sound communication skills (both written and oral) and ability to work as part of a team to meet department objectives.
5. Ability to think laterally and problem solve independently with initiative and demonstrated organisational and time
management skills.
6. Demonstrated efficiency in the use of computer systems and databases.
7. High level of personal integrity, confidentiality, adaptability and the ability to interact with diverse cultures.
Desirable
1. Certificate III or above in Hospital-Health Services Pharmacy Support or willingness to complete within two years of
appointment.
2. Experience identifying and participating in quality improvement activities to improve workplace practices.

NTPS employees subject to CHO Directions No. 41 of 2022 requires workers in high risk places to have received their third
dose (booster) by 11 March 2022 and CHO Directions 52/2022 now requires remaining employees to have received their
third dose (booster) by 22 April 2022 (except where a medical exemption is granted). Positions may be subject to pre-
