The Principal Advisor – Process Safety is responsible for overseeing Rio Tinto’s Process Safety program across our Pacific Operations, ensuring it is implemented efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. This role provides assurance across our sites in Australia and New Zealand by driving continuous improvement initiatives, partnering with key stakeholders in Operations and Asset Management, supporting governance reporting, risk assessment programs. Additionally, the role plays a critical part in training and developing process safety professionals to build capability and foster a strong safety culture.

Reporting to the General Manager HSE and working in an industrial process safety environment within a high performing team, you will :
- Plan and implement process safety policies and procedures in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health requirements of Rio Tinto and regulatory authorities.
- Provide input to business units and PG risk assessment committee
- Implement programs to train managers and employees in site process safety practices,
- Provide governance reporting and hands on support of HAZOP programs, including training and developing safety teams.
- Prepare studies and analysis of accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and contractors. Make recommendations to mitigate causes and to avoid occurrences.
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering Safety or Process Safety.
- A collaborative mindset and experience shaping strategic direction in complex programs—ideally in infrastructure or resource sectors.
- Signification Industrial and process safety experience, with proven capability to influence outcomes
- A passion for building strong, respectful relationships with diverse stakeholders, and a track record of aligning interests to achieve shared outcomes.
- Experience contributing to governance structures, including risk frameworks and reporting.
- A thoughtful, analytical approach to preparing strategic papers, negotiation frameworks, and governance documentation that support informed decision-making.
