The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking a Principal Clinical Oversight Officer, to provide a critical role within Justice Health.

About the Business Unit

Justice Health is part of the Corrections and Justice Services (CJS) group in the Department of Justice and Community Safety and supports the Minister for Corrections. CJS also comprises Corrections Victoria; Policy, Strategy and Service Design; Group Services and Coordination; and Justice Services (which includes Community Correctional Services and other justice programs). CJS plays an integral role in developing safer and more resilient communities and in delivering a trusted justice and community safety system.

The Adult Health Oversight Unit is responsible for:

  • oversight of the delivery of health services across the Victorian adult correctional system

ensuring service providers work collaboratively to ensure integrated and coordinated approaches to meeting the needs of people in custody

  • driving ongoing improvements to service delivery.

The Adult Health Oversight Unit achieves this through working collaboratively with people in custody, health service providers, Corrections Victoria staff and public health providers.

About the Role

The role of Principal Clinical Oversight Officer is to apply expert clinical advice to ensure the robust oversight of healthcare services across the Victorian correctional systems through audits, reviews and investigations, provide expert clinical input to inform service design and system improvements and develop and maintain sound systems, policies and procedures that foster a culture of accountability, whilst encouraging innovation and problem solving. The Principal Clinical Oversight Officer works closely with other Principal Clinical Oversight Officers, and Manager - Legal and Coronial to ensure subject matter expertise informs reviews into deaths and incidents. The Principal Clinical Oversight Officer works closely with contracted service providers to facilitate prompt resolution of clinical issues and promote positive outcomes for individual service users; accountability and continuous improvement.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Apply expert clinical skills to ensure the robust oversight of healthcare services across the Victorian correctional systems through audits, reviews and investigations.
  • Provide expert clinical input to inform service design and system improvements.
  • Develop and maintain sound systems, policies and procedures that foster a culture of accountability, whilst encouraging innovation and problem solving.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in delivery of healthcare services in highly sensitive and complex environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring healthcare service delivery.

Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in a health or related field.
  • Current AHPRA registration
