Primary objective
Provide quality analysis, insights and advice on complex economic, statistical, demographic and industry-related issues
relevant to the Northern Territory.

Context statement
The Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations is the Northern Territory Government’s lead agency to shape an
enabling environment that activates industry, attracts investment and drives business growth to sustain a vibrant Territory
economy and lifestyle. The Analytics and Insights unit provides across-agency support through the provision of data, analysis,
insights and advice to support the priorities and functions of the Department.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and deliver high-quality, evidenced-based economic research, analysis, insights and advice that inform Departmental

decision making.
2. Design, implement and manage sophisticated economic models and impact assessments to support evidenced-based

decision making.
3. Prepare high-level reports, insights, briefing notes, advice, dashboards, ministerial correspondence and submissions.
4. Represent the Department on inter-departmental committees and working groups.
5. Foster and maintain effective and collaborative relationships across the Department and with external stakeholders to

support informed policy development and decision making.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. High level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and business intelligence and visualisation applications.
2. Ability to manipulate and analyse complex datasets to generate clear and actionable insights.
3. Strong research, analysis and problem-solving capabilities, with a proven track-record of delivering high-impact economic

analysis and insights.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate insights to technical

and non-technical audiences.
5. Demonstrated ability to build and manage productive relations with stakeholders and working independently and

collaboratively with teams while managing competing priorities.
6. A sound understanding of contemporary economic and statistical issues.

Desirable
1. Tertiary qualification in economics or a related discipline.
2. Experience in economic modelling using software such as EViews or Stata and working with databases using tools like

SQL.
