Your opportunity

The Enterprise Risk and Compliance Team is a respected group of risk and assurance professionals who provide strategic leadership and expert guidance across Risk, Assurance, Compliance, Business Resilience, and Policy Governance, driving the direction of the organisation and its transformation journey for the benefit of customers and employees.

We are seeking a strategic and experienced Principal Risk & Assurance Adviser (AS7) to play a key role in developing, implementing, and continuously improving Queensland Rail’s Enterprise Risk Management and Assurance Frameworks. This role supports the alignment of risk, assurance, and compliance management with business strategy, safety, and regulatory obligations, and fosters a mature, risk-aware culture across a complex rail operating environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide expert advice on risk and assurance, leveraging industry benchmarks, regulatory expectations, and data-driven insights to support continuous improvement.
  • Influence and shape organisational culture and practices through consultation and engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance, implement, and embed improvements in the Risk Management System, including digital solutions.
  • Coach and mentor risk professionals to build organisational capability and embed a strong risk culture.
  • Deliver complex reports and insights using large datasets, preferably within Resolver / Core GRC platforms.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of the Enterprise Risk Management System (ERMS), including stakeholder engagement and training.
  • Present reports and insights to various levels of management, including executive committees.

This is a fixed-term (3-6 months), fulltime position based in Brisbane CBD. The role offers a starting salary of $151,359 (pro rata) plus 12.75% superannuation, along with hybrid work options to support a healthy work-life balance.

What we’re looking for

  • Extensive experience in risk and assurance within a large, complex organisation, preferably in a corporate or strategic operational context.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and mentor risk professionals, with a strong focus on building organisational capability and embedding a mature risk-aware culture.
  • Advanced skills in influencing, negotiating, and consulting with diverse internal and external stakeholders to drive the adoption and integration of enterprise risk and assurance frameworks.
  • High-level experience in providing strategic advice on risk and assurance, informed by industry benchmarking, regulatory expectations, and data-driven insights to support continuous improvement.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing simplified, efficient digital solutions for risk, assurance, and compliance management.
  • Demonstrated capability in leading and embedding enhancements to Risk Management Systems, including process redesign and implementation support.
  • Experience in managing project milestones and deliverables independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in working with large datasets to produce complex reports and actionable insights, with preferred experience using Resolver or Core GRC platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, consultation, and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and present reports to senior leadership and executive committees.
