Brisbane Times is seeking an experienced and driven Reporter to join our team. The successful candidate will be a news-breaking journalist with a proven ability to write authoritatively across diverse topics. The reporter will pitch stories for Queensland and national audiences that contribute to subscription growth at Brisbane Times and Nine’s metro mastheads, including The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

Day to day you will:

  • Generate unique content ideas for daily and weekly news cycles, and for Queensland and national audiences.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, balanced, timely, well-written, and well-researched reports for publication on our website and social platforms.
  • Maintain an extensive network of contacts and sources.
  • Demonstrate excellent news judgment and knowledge of current affairs.
  • Take ownership of stories/issues and follow up when appropriate.
  • Meet agreed audience benchmarks and deadlines.

We have two positions available, one permanent and one 12-month contract opportunity. Please note shift work and weekend work will be required.

Qualifications

What you’ll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a major metropolitan newsroom.
  • Strong journalistic background and first-rate news judgment.
  • Proven ability to identify, articulate, and develop intelligent, agenda-setting journalism.
  • Strong inter-personal effectiveness, ability to build rapport and work collaboratively with teams across different locations.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
