Your next career opportunity
As a Research Fellow, you'll play a crucial role in investigating the effects of anti-obesity pharmacotherapies on cellular signalling and metabolism in skeletal muscle cells. You'll have the opportunity to coordinate an exploratory research project, utilising advanced technologies such as mass spectrometry phosphoproteomics and metabolomics. This role offers you the chance to contribute to groundbreaking research in collaboration with a world-leading industry partner, potentially shaping the future of obesity treatments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct Independent Research: Perform experimental investigations on cellular signalling and metabolism using advanced 'omics' technologies.
  • Collaborate and Communicate: Work with team members, industry partners, and the broader research community to advance project outcomes and prepare data for publication.
  • Supervise and Mentor: Provide guidance to undergraduate students and graduate researchers, contributing to their academic development.
  • Support Laboratory Operations: Contribute to the smooth running of a busy and productive laboratory, including maintenance of cell lines and technical support for other projects.

You may be a great fit if:

You are a dedicated researcher with a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, pharmacology, or a related field, possessing expertise in cell signalling and metabolism analysis, with experience in 'omics' technologies and bioinformatics approaches.

You may also:

  • Have hands-on experience with mass spectrometry proteomics and/or metabolomics.
  • Possess strong bioinformatics skills for analysing and integrating 'omics' data.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
  • Show enthusiasm and expertise in skeletal muscle biology and metabolic research.
  • Be willing to occasionally work outside normal hours to complete crucial experiments.

The Department of Anatomy and Physiology is a highly successful teaching and research department within the School of Biomedical Sciences. We teach into the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and the Master of Biomedical Science through the delivery of subjects across the teaching disciplines of Anatomy, Cell & Developmental Biology, Neuroscience, and Physiology. Our teaching programs are widely recognised for their innovative approach and delivery, both through the development of online resources and in the use of student-focused, active learning approaches. Constant review and refinement of the curriculum and educational methods ensures that we best prepare students for scientific independence as they enter graduate and postgraduate professional and research careers.

The Department of Anatomy and Physiology’s key research themes are Metabolic and Cardiovascular Sciences, Muscle Biology, Neuroscience, and Stem Cell and Developmental Biology.
