The Adolescent Medicine Department at The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network are seeking a temporary 0.6FTE (24 hours per
week ) Staff Specialist to join their team as soon as possible until 28 February 2026.


The primary purpose of the Staff Specialist in Adolescent Medicine is to provide specialist medical care for patients, and medical leadership within the SCHN Eating Disorder Service (EDS). The Staff Specialist position works collaboratively with the Psychological Medicine Staff Specialists and multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive medical treatment and psychological care for patients and their families. It includes, inpatient and outpatient services, clinical supervision for junior medical staff, contribution to Adolescent Medicine OnCall service and specialist medical cover for various clinical services within the Department as required. The position will be part of the EDS leadership team at CHW and contribute to strategic planning, service development, quality improvement, teaching and education, supervision of junior medical staff and research opportunities

The SCHN Eating Disorder Service (EDS) provides treatment for children and adolescents with anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders from across New South Wales. Comprehensive programs at The Children's Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick include inpatient re-feeding admissions, outpatient treatment, intensive eating disorder day program, family admission program, parent groups and extensive family therapy program. The EDS also has a well-established clinical research program and regularly provides training, education and supervision to other services. The EDS is jointly managed and staffed by the Department of Psychological Medicine and Department of Adolescent Medicine. The service has a medical and allied health co-lead who are responsible for the strategic direction and daily management of the staff and programs.

The department of adolescent medicine provides comprehensive medical and multidisciplinary intervention within a developmental framework to address health and wellbeing of adolescents at SCHN. Other clinical services include:


  • Complex Adolescent Clinic (CAC)
    multidisciplinary team, providing medical and psychosocial assessment and management of adolescents with complex chronic conditions, chronic pain and fatigue syndromes impacting on their wellbeing and function.
  • Adolescent Self-Management clinic
  • Adolescent Bladder Clinic, Gynaecology Clinic and Endocrine Clinic
  • The CICADA Service is a lifespan approach to the Care and Intervention for Children and Adolescents affected by Drugs and Alcohol. The clinical service provides multidisciplinary comprehensive diagnostic assessment and management for high risk vulnerable children and adolescents with FASD, substance use within the family or of the Adolescent.
  • Gender Services (GS) provides an interdisciplinary service between Adolescent Medicine, Psychological Medicine and Paediatric Endocrinology providing collaborative medical and psychosocial assessment, management for trans and gender diverse children and adolescents.

In addition to the clinical services the Department of Adolescent medicine provides special programs and opportunities for adolescents in hospital including Youth Arts, Chronic Illness Peer Support (ChIPs) and collaborates closely with the WH& Y, Trapeze transition Service and the Youth Advisory Council.

  • Eligible for Specialist Registration with the Medical Board of Australia, and/or overseas trained pathways.
  • Fellowship of the RACP or other Specialist College in Paediatric Subspecialty and/or other specialist recognition as provided in the Staff Specialists (State) Award relevant to Eating Disorder Service or Adolescent Health.
  • Demonstrate clinical experience in the treatment of adolescents with eating disorders, complex medical and psychosocial needs including experience in vulnerable and diverse populations.
  • Demonstrate commitment to advancing Adolescent Medicine's clinical, research and training agendas including a commitment to clinical practice improvement and quality improvement activities.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and provide effective clinical leadership and oversight.
  • Demonstrated effective clinical communication, verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Available to participate in the Adolescent Medicine On Call Roster
