About the Role

Newington College seeks a dynamic Science teacher to commence at the beginning of Term 4, 2025 or Term 1, 2026 (negotiable). Experienced teachers and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Newington College seeks an inspirational educator to join our Science Department as we educate the next generation of scientific thinkers who are ready and willing to engage in and contribute to the fascinating world around them.

The successful applicant will join an experienced team of experts, focused on inspiring and stretching our students’ thinking, knowledge, and skills. Our students are curious and enjoy the rigour and excitement of studying Science. In addition to the mandatory NESA Science courses, close to a third of our Year 9 and 10 cohorts elect to study IGCSE Physics. Our senior students choose from an extensive Science offering in either the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) or the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC), with student enrolment in HSC Science Extension growing significantly.

Our Science Centre has thirteen laboratories catering for Science classes from Years 7 to 12, including three large specialist super-labs. All Science lessons are conducted in laboratories, allowing for considerable flexibility in teaching programs, scientific practice, and learning. Practical work in all courses is complemented by the ample provision of both commonplace and specialised Science equipment.

About You

We have deliberately not provided set and narrow selection criteria. However, it would be expected that the successful candidate will:
  • have appropriate teaching and tertiary qualifications relevant to the position
  • have experience or willingness to teach across Years 7 – 10 Science; experience and/or ability to teach HSC/IB Chemistry and/ HSC IB Physics and/ HSC/IB Biology
  • be a dynamic and effective classroom practitioner
  • differentiate instruction and cater for a range of learning abilities and needs
  • have a thorough understanding of the learning process, including the role of assessment and feedback
  • work effectively as a member of a team
  • be personally committed to learning and professional growth
  • have a strong work ethic
  • possess strong ICT competencies
  • show a genuine appreciation and commitment to pastoral care
  • participate in the College's co-curricular program
  • understand and adhere to the College's Child Safeguarding policies and practices
  • contribute to the continuous improvement of Child Safeguarding at Newington.
