YOUR NEW ROLE:

The Himilo Youth Engagement and Economic Participation Officer supports African Australian job seekers (15+) and disadvantaged youth (10-17) at risk of disengagement or justice involvement. The role delivers tailored case management, career and empowerment planning, and connects participants to education, training, employment, and community supports. Working collaboratively with other Himilo programs to achieve organisational objectives, the officer also builds inclusive employer networks. This position fosters sustainable outcomes and reports to the Himilo Co-Managers, contributing to broader community and economic participation goals.

YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Conduct initial needs assessments for participants and develop tailored support plans (Career Action Plans or Himilo Empowerment Plans).
  • Provide intensive 1:1 case management support, including job search, application, interview preparation, and post-placement follow-up.
  • Facilitate referrals to education, training, employment, volunteer opportunities, and relevant support services.
  • Engage school-aged participants in programs such as Homework Club, Himilo Active, and cultural/religious activities.
  • Collaborate with schools, families, tutors, and service providers to support participant goals and sustained engagement.
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate employment readiness workshops (e.g., job search, interview skills, work rights, professional networking).
  • Build and maintain partnerships with employers to identify job opportunities and promote workplace inclusion and cultural safety.
  • Organise and deliver youth engagement and support events that promote education, health, recreation, and community connection.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, data, and records in line with program monitoring, evaluation, and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor participant progress, conduct quarterly plan reviews, and support program re-engagement where needed.
  • Collect and contribute to evaluation data through participant and stakeholder surveys and consultations.
  • Work collaboratively across Himilo programs to support shared outcomes and organisational objectives.
  • Attend regular team meetings and report to the Himilo Co-Managers on program progress and challenges.
  • Ensure activities align with funding requirements, program KPIs, and available budgets.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Demonstrated experience working with culturally diverse communities, particularly African Australian youth and families.
  • Proven ability to engage and support disadvantaged young people and job seekers, including those at risk of disengagement or involved with the justice system.
  • Strong case management skills, including assessment, planning, goal setting, referral, and review processes.
  • Sound understanding of the barriers to employment, education, and community participation faced by young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience delivering employment support services including resume writing, interview preparation, and post-placement support.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with employers, service providers, education institutions, and community organisations.
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills, including cultural sensitivity and the ability to work collaboratively with families, schools, and support agencies.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage a caseload and meet targets and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and case management or client data systems.
