The Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing Centre is a place of hope grounded in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customs, values, spiritual connection to ancestral lands, seas, and waters, and cultural knowledge. It offers a culturally safe and welcoming environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can access support for their mental health and social and emotional wellbeing. The Centre takes a holistic, whole person approach that respects and includes traditional healing methods. Staff are culturally aware, trauma-informed, recovery-focused, and provide warm, non-judgemental, and compassionate care.
Centre Implementation:
Our centre is set to officially commence service delivery October 2025.

Recruitment Information:
Position Commencement: We are aiming to commence staff on the 1st of September 2025.
Hours: Full time (1.0FTE)
Contract: Ongoing
Location: While our permanent centre is being established in the CBD, positions will be based at Sonder Marion and Sonder Port Adelaide.

About the Role:
The Aboriginal Community Consultant (Narrative Therapy Practitioner) holds a deeply integrated role within the Centre, combining cultural knowledge and therapeutic practice. This position provides culturally safe narrative therapy to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The role is grounded in cultural ways of healing and storytelling, advocating for whole-of-life, whole-of-family approaches to wellbeing and ensuring all services reflect the experience, hopes, and strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Experience Requirements:
This position is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Identified position and is exempt under the Equal Opportunity Act (1984). The position will only be open to those who identify as of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
Experience providing therapeutic support, narrative therapy and culturally grounded approaches.
Proven capacity to engage respectfully with children, young people, Elders, and families.
Relevant experience providing support in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, mental health or community services.
Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from regional and remote communities is highly desirable.

Diploma of Narrative Approaches for Aboriginal People (Consulting, Group and Community Work)
