Join V/Line’s Accessibility Reference Group

Use your lived experience to help make transport better for everyone

  • Victoria-wide.
  • Volunteer opportunity. 3-year term.
  • $100 per session.

V/Line is inviting expressions of interest from people with disability to join our Accessibility Reference Group (ARG): a panel of lived experience advocates helping shape the future of accessible public transport across regional Victoria.

We want people who bring passion, insight, and a broad perspective, people who are ready to speak up and help us improve the way our services work for everyone.

What the group does

The Accessibility Reference Group (ARG) provides direct advice to V/Line on how to improve accessibility across the regional network.

This includes input on:

  • Station upgrades and major projects
  • Customer service experience
  • Temporary changes or disruptions
  • The V/Line Accessibility Action Plan
  • Testing new technology, website functions and fleet features

As an Accessibility Reference Group (ARG) Member, you might be invited to take part in activities like user testing, collaborative workshops with other transport providers, or providing feedback on service design from a lived experience point of view.

Who we’re looking for

We want to build a group that reflects the full diversity of disability, age, identity, and geography across Victoria.

You don’t need to be a policy expert or transport specialist. We’re looking for people who:

  • Live with disability, or are a parent/carer with relevant lived experience
  • Use V/Line services at least 6 times per year
  • Are comfortable contributing in group settings
  • Can bring their own experience while also thinking broadly about access for others
  • Can attend a minimum of 6 meetings per year, including two in-person sessions in Melbourne (with support for travel and adjustments as needed)
  • Live in regional Victoria or Melbourne and have a good understanding of the access challenges in their local area

We especially welcome expressions of interest from young adults, First Nations people, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, LGBTIQ+ community members, and people with invisible disabilities.

What you’ll get out of it

  • $100 stipend per meeting or engagement activity (minimum of 6 meetings per year)
  • Travel expenses covered (including support for regional travel)
  • Opportunities to contribute to real-world projects and influence change
  • Experience working in a structured advisory setting
  • Connection with other advocates and transport operators across the state

You’ll also gain skills that can support future leadership, work, or community involvement.

Apply now

For further details and confidential conversation, please contact Cass Bertram, Accessibility Advisor, at [email protected]

You’re welcome to apply in the way that suits you best.

Our preferred option is for you to click through to our V/Line Careers page and submit a short, written response telling us:

  • Why you’re interested in the ARG
  • A little about your lived experience and the region you’re based in

If writing isn’t your thing, you can also contact Cass to arrange an alternative (like video, phone, or support with preparing your response).

We want to make this process as inclusive and comfortable as possible. Just let us know, we’re here to help.

Applications close at 11:59pm on Sunday, 13 July 2025

We will respond to all applications received for this volunteer role

This opportunity is open to people who live with disability. If you’re not sure whether this includes you, but feel connected to this work, we encourage you to apply.
