About the role
As the Head of Modality for General at Flinders Medical Centre, you will lead the daily clinical and operational management of the Plain Film, Theatre and Mobile Radiography service. This will be done in close collaboration with existing Senior Radiographers and Shift Seniors to provide a collaborative and excellent 24/7 service to those areas.
Reporting to the Chief Radiographer and Campus Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing department staffing allocations, workload distribution, problem solving, and dynamic resource coordination to ensure the delivery of a timely, high-quality imaging service.
You will set professional and procedural standards for the General Radiography service, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through efficient management and clinical excellence, which you will then instil in the team around you through methods of transformational leadership and coaching. This will be done in a variety of ways, for example but not limited to direct 1:1 teaching, departmental CPD sessions and formal Performance Review and Development discussions.
In addition to leading the current staff group, you will be vital in providing clinical supervision of new graduate and newly employed team members, identifying areas for development and supporting them on their journey to success.
This highly specialised role involves not just undertaking complex imaging procedures in high stress environments such as theatre and the resuscitation areas, requiring structured and independent decision-making, but leading the wider team to develop these skills and excel in these environments also.
Your experience and knowledge will allow you to contribute to research, clinical audits, and lead or oversee (after suitable delegation) multidisciplinary general radiography-related projects.
As a key member of the imaging team, you will also participate in monthly Section Head meetings and others as necessary, ensuring seamless and cohesive service and an aligned clinical leadership delivery across the whole department in what is a very dynamic healthcare environment.
About You
You are an experienced and highly skilled Radiographer with advanced clinical expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Your ability to manage complex workloads, lead change, and foster a supportive team environment ensures the delivery of high-quality imaging services within a dynamic healthcare setting.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
Qualifications and Registration: Licensed under the Radiation Protection and Control Act SA (2021) and registered with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (or equivalent accreditation).
Clinical and Leadership Experience: Proven senior-level clinical record in general radiography with extensive imaging experience, strong commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement and demonstrated ability in clinical management, including supervision, delegation, and policy development.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders, manage conflict, and lead departmental change with a positive and motivating approach.
Knowledge and Compliance: Comprehensive understanding of quality improvement, risk management, and legislative requirements under the Work Health Safety Act 2012 and Return to Work Act 2014.
