About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen at ST Vic for an Assistant General Counsel to lead a highly capable and high-performing team in delivering best practice legal and governance services. Reporting to the Director, Legal Services & General Counsel, you will manage a team with a diverse portfolio spanning administrative law, commercial and contract law, statutory interpretation, workplace relations, litigation, privacy, freedom of information (FOI), and governance.
In this pivotal role, you will champion people development and actively drive improvement in how the legal and governance function engages and collaborates with the broader organisation. You will also be expected to exercise sound judgment in assessing legal risk, prioritising high-impact matters while streamlining or deferring lower-risk issues to maximise efficiency. Most importantly, you will guide the team in addressing diverse and impactful legal matters while contributing to ST Vic’s mission of safe journeys, every time.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Overseeing the provision of solutions focused and practical legal advice across a broad range of matters, aligned with organisational goals.
- Leading a team of legal professionals fostering a high-performing and inclusive culture focused on engagement with the business, risk assessment and leveraging the benefits of technology.
- Driving strategic legal management and ensuring clear communication of insights to key stakeholders.
- Supporting organisational goals by positioning the legal team as a trusted business partner.
- Building effective internal and external stakeholder relationships to strengthen compliance, governance, and informed decision-making.

Qualifications
A relevant degree in law and a current Victorian legal practicing certificate.
