The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) is seeking an Assistant Manager Policy and Strategic Support to fill a vital role within the Aboriginal Operations Strategic Support team within the Workforce and Aboriginal Outcomes division.
About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult prison system, seeking to provide safe and secure containment for people in custody and an environment and programs and services that support rehabilitation. Corrections Victoria runs 11 public prisons, one transition centre, and oversees privately operated prisons. Corrections Victoria provides best practice interventions that aim to reduce the risk of reoffending, including case management informed by sound risk assessment, offence specific and offence related programs, and transition and reintegration supports.
Workforce and Aboriginal Outcomes leads the design, development, implementation and monitoring of Corrections Victoria policies, programs and services aimed at reducing the over-representation of Aboriginal people within the Victorian correctional system and manage initiatives related to the Safer prisons, Safer People, Safer Communities reform agenda. The division is made up of three teams, Cultural Review and Workforce Strategy, Naalamba Ganbu and Nerrlinggu Yilam and Aboriginal Operational Strategic Supports.
About the role:
This role sits within the Aboriginal Operational Strategic Supports which is responsible for policy, contracts and procurement, governance and secretariat functions and planning and reporting for Aboriginal programs and services.
The role of the Assistant Manager Policy and Strategic Support will develop and monitor policies, and be responsible for strategic planning, program and engagement governance and reporting, providing high-level strategic advice and complex reports to executive management and Ministers.
You will have oversight of several program support functions including budget and finance activities, contracts and procurement, governance, data collation and analysis as well as secretariat and reporting responsibilities. You will be required to liaise with multiple internal and external stakeholders in relation to policy development and programs and services reporting.
Some of your responsibilities will include:
  • Leads policy development, governance, coordination and strategic planning functions in a complex operating environment.
  • Works flexibly in an often time sensitive environment utilising their excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Leads the development and review of key departmental reports and publications including governance and secretariat support.
  • Support the division in budget monitoring and submissions as well as overseeing the day-to-day financial functions of contract management.
  • Oversee the development and review of programs and other support services for Aboriginal people in custody including consultation and reporting functions.
  • Develop and maintain data capture sources to support the analysis and reporting of programs with the Workforce and Aboriginal Outcomes division.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • Experience in planning, and the development and implementation of policy.
  • Experience in business functions such as contract management, data collation and analysis, reporting and secretariat/governance activities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal community, both society and culture, and the issues impacting it.
