THE ROLE
The Automation & Optimisation Manager is responsible for leading the delivery and maintenance of automation systems within our Distribution Centre, with a focus on improving safety, service, quality, and cost.
This role plays a critical part in analysing and enhancing existing processes and system performance, maintaining SOPs, and identifying future opportunities through emerging automation technologies. The role also partners closely with the DC Manager, suppliers, and Swisslog to implement continuous improvement and lean initiatives that drive scalable and sustainable business growth.
Reporting into the Head of Supply Chain & Logistics, this role is responsible for, but not limited to:
- Oversee the Autostore system to deliver excellent service to customers at optimal cost
- Create and implement best practice automation principles and processes across the DC
- Plan, manage and evaluate preventative management, service and spare parts with suppliers
- Play a leading role in establishing a culture of continuous improvement using lean methodologies
- Lead problem and issue resolution whilst maintaining high levels of quality and service
- Analyse, interpret and report on system trends
- Help drive a strong safety culture in the operation by leading by example, hazard identification and the development of our safety system
- Help with the strategic agenda for future CAPEX at the site
- Lead, coach and develop others to build a highly engaged team with automation knowledge
- Leverage International JD Sport knowledge and other partners knowledge of Autostore solutions
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR?
- Relevant tertiary education qualifications preferred, but not essential
- More than 5 years’ experience in Warehouse Automation, preferably Autostore)
- Knowledge and understanding of logistics processes in retail/fashion industry
- Experience in applying Lean methodology to Logistics to drive efficiency is preferred, but not essential
- Experience leading warehousing transformation projects
- Strong planning skills with the ability to handle multiple projects through to completion
- Commercial and financial acumen
- Proven people skills with the ability to optimise direct or indirect team performance and development
