About the Role
The Full-Time Barista oversees daily operations of the café with a focus on delivering exceptional coffee and food experiences. This includes managing stock and equipment, supporting a positive and high-performing team culture, and ensuring outstanding customer service. The role also contributes to financial reporting and supports recruitment and training. This is a leadership-focused position for a barista with supervisory experience who thrives in a fast-paced, community-oriented setting.
Required Skills and Experience
- 2+ years’ experience in a café, canteen or similar hospitality environment
- Proven ability to lead and train a small team
- Strong knowledge of espresso preparation, milk texturing, and recipe adherence
- Experience managing inventory and ordering supplies
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain coffee equipment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational and multitasking skills
- Food Safety Supervisor Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 20kg
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Lead by example with a presence on the floor
- Ensure efficient, warm and professional service
- Resolve customer concerns with a positive, solutions-focused approach
- Foster a welcoming, community-focused environment
Coffee, Food & Beverage Operations
- Ensure consistency and quality in all food and beverage offerings
- Follow and enforce recipe adherence
- Train team members on preparation techniques and presentation standards
- Support food, beverage and smoothie production as needed
Stock Control & Ordering
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels
- Order supplies in a timely manner
- Rotate stock effectively to minimise waste
- Ensure all food safety practices are followed
Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain all café equipment in working order
- Conduct and schedule regular maintenance
- Respond to audit feedback from Facilities Manager
- Communicate with cleaning team to uphold hygiene standards
Team Leadership & Recruitment
- Lead, train, and support the café team
- Drive team culture through open communication and support
- Manage recruitment and onboarding in partnership with HR
- Lead 1:1s and team meetings to maintain alignment and engagement
Financial Accountability
- Monitor and control variable costs including stock and labour
- Maintain budget alignment and propose cost-beneficial practices
- Take ownership of full café P&L
- Participate in weekly and monthly reporting with F&B management
Reporting
- Complete daily, weekly and monthly venue performance reports
- Represent the venue at internal management meetings
- Provide timely updates to the Cluster Manager and National F&B Manager
Work Health & Safety
- Ensure safe work practices and adherence to WHS standards
- Promote food safety and hygiene awareness
- Educate team members on WHS protocols
