The NSW Psychiatry Training Program offers a coordinated, networked approach to training that brings together the health
system, hospitals, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and experienced doctors to
ensure that the on-the-job training available in NSW is the best on offer in Australia.
Your training journey will begin at hospitals across NSW Health, working with people who have a psychiatric illness in a
supportive, multi-disciplinary team context and under the supervision of an experienced consultant psychiatrist. You will
be welcomed into hospitals, departments and clinics across NSW, and supported by Network staff, doctors and other
health professionals committed to sharing their knowledge and skills.
The breadth of opportunities available in metropolitan, regional and rural centres will shape your development and
learnings, provide experience with local communities and support your progression through the RANZCP training
requirements.

An exciting opportunity exists to join the NSW Psychiatry Training Program as a Stage 1 & 2 (Basic) Trainee.
Where you'll be working
The NSW Psychiatry Training Program offers a coordinated, networked approach to training that brings together the health
system, hospitals, the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and experienced doctors to
ensure that the on-the-job training available in NSW is the best on offer in Australia.

- Sydney South West North Coast Network (SSWNC)
- Sydney West Greater Southern Network (SWaGS)
All Psychiatry Training Networks offer experience at training sites that are busy, dynamic and characterised by a wide
variety of presentations and patient populations. The Networked approach gives you access to a complete RANZCP
accredited training program including Stage 1 and Stage 2 (Basic) training and completion of Stage 3 (Advanced)
training.
Each Network optimises the quality of training available at each site and ensures the equitable distribution of trainees to
terms across the Network. Rotation through the different terms of the Psychiatry training program provides exposure to a
broad range of sub-specialty areas and facilitates learning through clinical and individual supervision, dedicated teaching
time and access to a Formal Education Course of your choice.

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the position is to provide effective specialist psychiatric health services to patients, under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and to develop expertise in psychiatric practice, in a complex clinical environment with commitment to contemporary, therapeutic, ethical and cultural respectful practice.

The training Network offers all mandatory training on a rotational basis. Doctors are required to rotate through terms/hospitals in the Network (including rural placement) to the following locations/facilities:
Network B is a comprehensive training Network which offers all mandatory training on a rotational basis within the Network. Network B covers 4 Local Health Districts:
Northern Sydney LHD Central Coast LHD Western NSW LHD
Far Western New South Wales, and includes placements to Justice Health and other health care providers e.g. the private sector. Doctors are required to rotate through terms/hospitals in the Network including rural placements.

- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.
- High level communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience
- Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Demonstrated high level independent clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and ability to learn independently and modify behaviour accordingly.
- Previous experience in and willingness to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.
- Demonstrated interest and commitment to further education and practice in Psychiatry
