Primary objective
The Business Manager provides strategic and operational leadership, advice and management support in the areas of finance,
procurement, administration, infrastructure and human resource management for non-teaching staff in a busy and demanding school
environment, including liaison with centralised service providers.
Context statement
Wagaman Primary School is an urban school situated in the northern suburbs of Darwin. The school has a current enrolment of
approximately 260 students from Preschool to Year 6. Wagaman Primary School has a strong wellbeing culture with a focus on positive
relationships. Staff work collaboratively to facilitate high-quality educational outcomes for all students as part of a school-wide inquiry
culture. The school is committed to “making a difference” in all students’ lives through a strong literacy and numeracy focus and a caring,
inclusive environment. The Business Manager works closely with the principal and leadership team in leading the non-teaching staff of
the school and resources in the global school budget to provide the best possible learning environment and opportunities for all students.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide leadership and supervision of the non-teaching staff of the school to ensure the provision of procurement, administrative,
infrastructure, budgets, financial management and classroom support services for the school.
2. Provide advice, or facilitate appropriate advice, on all corporate matters for school-based managers and staff.
3. Provide efficient and effective coordination of non-teaching staff training and recruitment in partnership with centralised service
providers.
4. Develop and implement corporate and business support services, including grants management systems and appropriate
management of internal controls.
5. Implement an ongoing program of continuous improvement for corporate support systems and processes including proactive data
collection, analysis and performance monitoring and reporting.
6. Liaise and negotiate with centralised service providers to coordinate delivery of business services and support achievement of school
and departmental strategic objectives.
7. Regularly report to the treasurer of the school council, ensuring that the School Representative Body’s responsibilities as an employer
are met, and when required, undertake the duties of treasurer/executive officer.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to analyse and provide advice on business support activities including financial and human resource, asset and
records management to facilitate efficient and effective program delivery.
2. Demonstrated experience in the management of school financial accounting systems (e.g. CI Anywhere) and the capability to perform
all financial functions of the workplace whilst ensuring both legislative and policy compliance.
3. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain
effective networks and collaborative partnerships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
4. Demonstrated experience in management of a service delivery team including management and coordination of staff, resources,
facilities, records and assets.
5. High level adaptability, flexibility and resilience including the ability to manage pressure and change in an environment undertaking
change, and to modify approaches to suit different people and situations.
6. The ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality.
