The City of Salisbury’s Field Services Department is dedicated to maintaining Council’s essential infrastructure, ensuring that public spaces and assets remain safe, functional, and inviting. This comprehensive service includes the maintenance of buildings, workshops, fleet, and stores; civil infrastructure such as drainage, footpaths, and waste management; and the care of parks, landscapes, and open spaces. Specialized teams handle everything from arboriculture and turf management to pest control and security, while also responding to emergencies and maintaining contracts for features like reserve maintenance and cemetery services. Field Services plays a crucial role in supporting a vibrant and sustainable community.
About the Role:
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Civil Maintenance Worker to join our dedicated Civil Maintenance team. In this role, you will carry out a variety of maintenance services including road, drainage, footpath, verge, and earthworks to ensure our civil assets are kept to a high standard. You’ll play a key part in maintaining public spaces through effective use of plant, machinery, and hand tools. This role also supports cleansing and waste operations and may vary with seasonal requirements. Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general civil maintenance activities such as road, footpath, verge, and drainage works
- Operate plant and equipment safely and competently including skid steer, backhoe, roller, excavator, and flocon truck
- Drive Council vehicles including medium trucks and utes as required
- Maintain equipment and tools in a clean, safe and operational condition
- Install temporary signage in accordance with Work Zone Traffic Management standards
- Accurately complete daily work records and timesheets
- Support cleansing and waste operations when needed
- Use hand tools and appropriate PPE in all tasks
- Raise defects found during inspections or maintenance
- Work collaboratively with the team, contractors, and other departments
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A proactive, hands-on approach with a strong work ethic
- The ability to work well in a team and follow direction
- A commitment to safety, care, and responsibility in all tasks
- Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering quality work
- A current MR Driver’s Licence (or higher)
- A Workzone Traffic Management Certificate
- Certificate III in Civil Construction/Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Solid experience operating civil maintenance machinery and tools
- Knowledge of road maintenance techniques and safe work practices
- Plant operation competencies for machinery such as backhoe, skid steer, roller, and flocon
