About the role
We are seeking a proactive and capable Specialist - Cloud Platform Engineering to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our cloud infrastructure.
Based at Leederville, you’ll be part of the Cloud Platform team within ITS, driving operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement across our cloud environments. This exciting 2 – year fixed term contract offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, collaborate across diverse teams, and influence strategic outcomes that support the Corporation’s digital transformation.

What the role will involve
As a Cloud Platform Specialist, you’ll be responsible for the operational management, engineering, and governance of Water Corporation’s cloud platforms, primarily within AWS. Your work will ensure platform reliability, security, and scalability, enabling internal teams to deliver high-impact solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Cloud Platform Operations
- Oversee day-to-day cloud operations, ensuring alignment with IT service lifecycle processes.
- Implement and maintain observability tools to monitor system health and performance.
- Respond to alerts and advisories to minimise service disruptions.
- Ensure cloud environments meet defined security standards and frameworks.
- Lead complex cloud migration initiatives with structured planning and risk management.
Cloud Platform Engineering
- Design and deploy reusable infrastructure using IaC tools like CloudFormation and CDK.
- Champion GitOps and CI/CD practices to streamline delivery pipelines.
- Continuously enhance platform capabilities through automation and performance optimisation.
- Support development and testing teams with best-practice platform solutions.
Governance & Advisory
- Collaborate with architecture and project teams to translate cloud strategies into scalable solutions.
- Define and enforce standards for security, compliance, and cost management.
- Evaluate emerging technologies to drive innovation.
- Provide expert advice and build knowledge across teams to influence better outcomes.
Compliance & Ethics
- Uphold Water Corporation’s Code of Conduct and relevant policies.
- Ensure all activities align with regulatory and ethical standards.
Key Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring a strong mix of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and collaborative spirit.
Essential Criteria:
- Degree in IT or a related business discipline.
- Substantial experience with AWS and IaC tools such as CloudFormation, CDK, or equivalents like Terraform or Pulumi.
- Proven track record managing and scaling large cloud environments in production.
- Strong scripting and automation skills using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Experience implementing DevOps/DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
- Ability to work across teams and influence platform adoption and best practices.
